The Honor Walk
The SFLIHW creates a pathway throughout San Francisco’s North Beach district, featuring bronze plaques embedded in the sidewalks. These plaques will honor prominent Italian-Americans who have significantly contributed to San Francisco in areas such as arts, business, civil rights, culture, entertainment, politics, science, social assistance, technology, and more. The goal is to memorialize these individuals and highlight their impact on the city’s community development.
To complement the physical pathway, each plaque will include a QR code linking to a mobile app. This app will provide historical information, photos, and videos about the person honored on the plaque. Additionally, the app will showcase stories and locations related to North Beach and its notable, but lesser-known, individuals celebrating the diverse fabric of the neighborhood.
During the placement of each plaque, SFLIWH will host events to celebrate the honorees, including exhibitions, conferences, and talks. Visual materials and testimonies from these events will be added to the app and website, offering a comprehensive, immersive experience for those exploring the pathway.
